The majority of MPs voted for the proposed General Election to be held on the 12th of December 2019 rather than the 9th.
MPs were considering the Early Parliamentary General Election Bill[1].
Clause 1(1) of the Bill stated:
- An early parliamentary general election is to take place on 12 December 2019 in consequence of the passing of this Act.
The amendment rejected in this vote was:
- amendment 2, page 1, line 2, leave out “12” and insert “9”.
This amendment was accompanied by an explanatory statement saying:
- This amendment would change the date of the proposed general election to Monday 9 December.
