The majority of MPs voted to set a deadline of 30 June 2021 for applications to the "EU Settlement Scheme" for European Economic Area and Swiss citizens, and their family members, resident in the United Kingdom, to apply to stay in the United Kingdom following the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:
- That the draft Citizens' Rights (Application Deadline and Temporary Protection) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020, which were laid before this House on 21 September, be approved.
The regulations set out some further details of the scheme in addition to the deadline and included provisions to enable people to stay in the UK until the deadline.
