Elections Bill — Clause 1 — Voter Identification — 17 Jan 2022 at 21:00

The majority of MPs voted to require voters in United Kingdom Parliamentary elections to produce photo-identification when voting at polling stations.

MPs were considering the Elections Bill.[1][2][3]

The amendment rejected in this vote was:

  • Amendment 1, page 1, line 4, leave out clause 1.

The rejected amendment was accompanied by the following statement from its proposer:

  • This amendment would remove the Voter ID provisions.

Had it not been rejected the amendment would have removed clause 1 of the Bill which provided for a requirement for voters in United Kingdom Parliamentary elections to produce photo-identification when voting at polling stations.
