Nationality and Borders Bill — Clause 9 — Notice of Decision to Deprive a Person of Citizenship — 22 Mar 2022 at 16:18

The majority of MPs voted to enable people to be deprived of their British Citizenship without contacting them and providing prior notice, should it be deemed impractical to give such notice, or contrary to the public interest to do so.

MPs were considering the Nationality and Borders Bill.[1][2][3]

The motion supported by the majority of MPs in this vote was:

That this House disagrees with Lords amendment 4.

Lords amendment 4[4][5] stated:

  • Leave out Clause 9

Clause 9 of the Bill provided for individuals to be deprived of their British Citizenship without contacting them and providing prior notice, should it be deemed impractical to give such notice, or contrary to the public interest to do so.[2][3][5]
