Education and Inspections Bill — 30 Oct 2006 at 23:16

The majority Not Contents defeated an Amendment to the the Education and Inspections Bill which would have provided for teachers and other school staff facing allegations of criminal behaviour towards children to remain anonymous until charges were brought, to protect against malicious allegations. The Government position was that existing guidance ensured that every effort should be made to maintain confidentiality, and that there was no mechanism to implement enforced anonymity, but that consultations were continuing.
