Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill — Increase upper size of alternative arrangements Local Authorities — rejected — 13 Oct 2009 at 21:00
The majority of MPs voted against inserting a new clause into the Local Democracy, Economic Development and Construction Bill that would have revised the size threshold in the Local Government Act 2000 for which there could be "alternative arrangements" from a population of 85,000 in 30th June 1999[1] to a population of 1,000,000.[2]
The "alternative arrangements"[3] are a set of regulations which excuse small local authorities and local authorities working under a county council from having to operate a strict system comprised of a single party executive[4] and a set of scrutiny committees.
