Local Government Finance Bill — Clause 8 — Move from Council Tax Benefit to Council Tax Reduction Schemes — 31 Jan 2012 at 22:00

The majority of MPs voted to move away from a national council tax benefit to a system of local councils administering council tax reductions for those in financial need. This localisation of council tax support was expected to reduce expenditure on such support by 10%^[1].

The clause in question was clause 8^[2] of the Local Government Finance Bill^[2].

The saving expected was £410 million per year.
