Mesothelioma Bill — Clause 4 — Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme to Be At Least 80% of Average Civil Compensation Payments — 7 Jan 2014 at 17:00
The majority of MPs voted not to require payments under the Diffuse Mesothelioma Payment Scheme be no less than 80 per cent of the average civil compensation recovered by mesothelioma claimants.
The payment scheme is for those illegally exposed to asbestos by their employers who have not obtained payments for damages by other routes.
MPs were considering the Mesothelioma Bill[1]. The amendment rejected in this vote was:
- Amendment 1, page 3, line 5 , at end insert ‘but shall not be less than 80 per cent of the average civil compensation recovered by mesothelioma claimants.
This would have affected clause 4 of the Bill and would have added the above words to a sentence stating:
- The amount of a payment under the scheme is to be determined in accordance with the scheme.
