Enterprise Bill — Clause 33 — Powers for Local Government to Vary Sunday Opening Hours for Large Shops — 9 Mar 2016 at 17:49

The majority of MPs voted against giving local government powers to vary the restrictions on large shops opening on Sundays.

MPs were considering the Enterprise Bill[1].

The amendment accepted by the majority of MPs taking part in this vote was:

  • amendment 1, in page 50, line 33, leave out subsections (1) to (4).

This impacted Clause 33 of the Bill titled Extended Sunday opening hours and Sunday working.

The omitted subclauses would have enabled local government to vary the restrictions on large shops opening on Sundays. Provisions relating to the rights of shop workers in respect of Sunday opening hours remained unchanged.
