Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill — New Clause 29 — Family Reunion and Settlement — 30 Jun 2020 at 18:00
The majority of MPs voted against retaining rights for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, spouses, vulnerable adults and dependant adults to join a family member who is legally present in the United Kingdom.
MPs were considering the Immigration and Social Security Co-ordination (EU Withdrawal) Bill.[1]
The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was titled: Family Reunion and Settlement and began:
- (1) The Secretary of State must make provision to ensure that an unaccompanied child, spouse or vulnerable or dependant adult who has a family member who is legally present in the United Kingdom has the same rights to be reunited in the United Kingdom with that family member as they would have had under Commission Regulation (EU) No. 604/2013
The rejected new clause was accompanied by the following statement from its proposer:
- This new clause would have the effect of continuing existing arrangements for unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, spouses and vulnerable adults to have access to family reunion with close relatives in the UK.
