House of Lords (Expulsion and Suspension) Bill — Clause 1 — Amendment to Remove Explusion Provision — 27 Feb 2015 at 14:15

The majority of MPs taking part voted to keep a provision allowing the House of Lords to create standing orders under which a resolution to expel a member of the House of Lords could be passed in the Bill.

MPs were considering the House of Lords (Expulsion and Suspension) Bill[1].

The amendment rejected in this vote was:

  • page 1, line 4, leave out paragraph (a).

This would have affected clause 1(1) of the Bill which stated:

  • (1) Standing Orders of the House of Lords may make provision under which the House of Lords may by resolution—
  • (a) expel a member of the House of Lords, or
  • (b) suspend a member of the House of Lords for the period specified in the resolution.
