Draft Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (Amendment) Order 2013 — Minimum Consultation and Notice Period for Large Scale Collective Redundancies — 26 Mar 2013 at 14:54

The majority of MPs voted to reduce, from 90 to 45 days, the minimum period of time which must elapse between the start of consultation and the first dismissal where an employer proposes to dismiss 100 or more employees as redundant within a period of 90 days or less.

The order approved by the majority of MPs also correspondingly reduced the length of period required between notifying the Secretary of State and the first dismissal taking effect to 45 days. The order also excluded the expiry of fixed term contracts from the provisions dealing with collective redundancies where the dismissal will take after the expiry of the specific term.

The motion approved by the majority of MPs was:

• That the draft Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (Amendment) Order 2013, which was laid before this House on 24 January, be approved.
