Planning Bill — National Planning Policy Statement To Include Policies Which Help Mitigate and Adapt to Climate Change — 2 Jun 2008 at 21:45
The majority of MPs voted against requiring the Secretary of State to be satisfied that his National Policy Statement[1], against which individual planning applications are assessed, contains policies that (taken as a whole) contribute to the mitigation of, and adaptation to, climate change.
As a result of this vote by MPs, National Policy Statements, which are written by the Government to advise the Planning Commission, do not need to consider climate change.
This would have been done by inserting a new clause[2][3] into the Planning Bill.
