Human Fertilisation and Embryology Bill [HL] — saviour siblings — definition of serious illness — 21 Jan 2008 at 16:36

This amendment seeks to place more stringent limits on the conditions under which saviour sibling tissue-typing can happen, by defining what a 'serious' condition is.

moved Amendment No. 33A:

Schedule 2, page 56, line 8, at end insert-
"(4) For the purposes of sub-paragraph (1)(c) and (d) "serious" means life-threatening or impairing severely the quality of life of a person with the disability, illness or condition."

On Question, Whether the said amendment (No. 33A) shall be agreed to?

Their Lordships divided: Contents, 138; Not-Contents, 167.
