The majority of MPs voted against making clear that sex-selective abortion is illegal.
MPs were considering the Serious Crime Bill[1].
The proposed new clause rejected in this vote was:
- Nothing in section 1 of the Abortion Act 1967 is to be interpreted as allowing a pregnancy to be terminated on the grounds of the sex of the unborn child.
