The majority of MPs voted against the introduction of a statutory register for all professional lobbyists.

The motion^[1] rejected in this vote was:

• That this House
• notes the absence of a Bill to provide for a statutory register of lobbyists in the Queen’s Speech;
• expresses its concern at the damage which may be inflicted on the reputation of the House in the absence of statutory regulation; and
• calls on the Government to immediately begin cross-party negotiations with a view to introducing a Bill before the summer recess, which would provide for the creation of a register for all professional lobbyists, with a clear code of conduct which is backed by sanctions in the event of egregious breaches of the code
